Jetion Solar Completes 50 MW PV Project in Southern Vietnam

Jetion Solar (China) Co., Ltd. (the “Company” or “Jetion Solar”), one of the world's leading PV manufacturers, recently announced that it has wrapped up construction of a 50 MW (DC) solar project in the southern Vietnamese province of Binh Thuan.

The China based company built the project in cooperation with renewables developer Helio Power Vietnam. The plant, which named “Thuan Minh 2 Solar Farm”, has started commercial operation from the end of June, 2019. It is expected to generate roughly 78,000 MWh clean energy every year, which is enough to cater to the needs of 40,000 Vietnamese households.

The project is Jetion Solar’s first EPC project in Vietnam. In August 2018, CNBM New Energy, a wholly owned subsidiary of Jetion Solar, signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Helio Power Vietnam to develop and construct a total of 500 MW solar power plants. The currenty 50 MW project in Binh Thuan province is the first phase of the total agreement.

Vietnam’s total installed PV capacity remains negligible thus far, with slightly more than 100 MW plugged in by the end of 2018, according to statistics from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). However, industry analysts expect a big chunk of solar capacity to be built this year, with new feed-in tariff rates to go into effect this summer. The Vietnamese government, meanwhile, hopes to see as much as 12 GW patched into the national electricity grid by 2030.

It is worth mentioning that CNBM New Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Jetion Solar, will serve as EPC contractor for “Thuan Minh 2 Solar Farm”. In August 2018, CNBM New Energy has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Helio Power Vietnam to develop and construct a total of 500 MW solar power plants, the currenty 50 MW project in Binh Thuan province is the first phase of the total agreement.

The “Thuan Minh 2 Solar Farm” will utilize over 150,000 of Jetion Solar’s high-efficiency 72-cell polycrystalline modules, and it is expected to supply more than 78,000 MWh clean energy to the grid annually. It is expected that the project will be connected to the grid before the end of June 2019, which is the time point for FIT decline in Vietnam.

"Jetion Solar has worked tirelessly to build and maintain its reputation as a reliable module supplier in the utility market," said Honglei Zhao, SVP of Jetion Solar, "It is another demonstration of our world-class capabilities and service to our international customers. We look forward to leveraging our expertise and working with more solar project industry leaders in the future."

“We are proud to build a project that will showcase the huge potential of utility-scale solar in Vietnam. The region’s booming population, strong economic growth, and abundant sunlight represent an exciting opportunity for solar.” said Phan Thanh Dat, General Manager of Helio Power. “Thank you to our respected partner Jetion Solar for their valuable roles in Thuan Minh 2 Solar Farm’s success. We look forward to cooperating with Jetion Solar’s professional and dedicated team again on future projects.”
