Market Overview:
India is located in the tropics and subtropics with rich solar energy resources. Among the world's top 20 economies, India has the highest average amount of sunshine. At the same time, India's PV market is developing rapidly due to its high economic growth and expanding demand for electricity. As of the first half of 2021, India's cumulative solar installations has exceeded 43 GW, according to a report by Mercom India Research, a clean energy communications and consulting firm. India is expected to add more than 10 GW of new solar installations by 2021, returning to its position as the world's third largest photovoltaic market.
At present, India’s safeguard duty (SGD) on solar imports expired on July 29, 2021, and the new basic customs duty (BCD) - 40% tariff on solar modules and 25% tariff on solar cells, is to come into force from 1 April 2022, which means that Chinese photovoltaic products exported to India will usher in an eight-month tax holiday.
